What is 'Wamkelikile'Digital'?' Good day and welcome to the Nelson'Mandela'University'family.'Wamkelekile'Digital is aimed at assisting parents/guardians and the extended'Mandela Uni'family with understanding the digital world that we operate in.''By doing so,'you'will be able to fully'engage with the institution,'and more so,'with'your child's'educational'journey'from 1st'year'to graduation.'''
When the Covid-19 pandemic started,'University's'were forced to go digital in order to continue with the delivery of academic programs. At Mandela, it meant that we had to ensure'that'students have access to'learning'material'and have a means of contacting their lecturers,'even though, they were miles away from campus. All of this was done in the online space'using Moodle,'as a learning'Management'System, and other digital platforms, MS Teams/Zoom'etc,''for'communication.''
Being online has opened other opportunities to the university'too, and this includes the'Wamkelekile'Digital program.''We can now empower the families of our students to engage more widely with the university. This digital welcome program will allow so many more families to attend the events planned for the start of the academic year. It will be more cost effective and much safer too,'as travelling is not required. It can be an event in which more than just the parents or guardians participate,'but the whole family can now hear the VC,'younger siblings can''see' our beautiful'campus'and everybody will 'meet' the lecturers who will be teaching your children. It can be a true family experience. Afterall, Nelson Mandela did say that;'The true character of a society is revealed in how it treats its children.'So then,'if we experience this welcome together as'parents/guardians and'family,'in support of our new first year student, how can he or she doubt that we are here to support them from year one to graduation.'
